MINI R56 air con problems

Morning,

Have an 09 MINI Cooper with standard air con. It’s not working properly and local garage is a bit stuck with what to do next

Compressor kicks in when button pressed. Condenser is new, system has been regassed. New pressure switch fitted and thermistor was re-positioned as was apparently in wrong location.

I picked it up the other day and they admitted it wasn’t great although was working and had read outs of 24 degrees without it in and between 8-14 with it switched on

Drive home and I could tell the difference between in and off but it was hardly icy and took a while to cool. My daughter drove it yesterday and says no difference in or off.

Garage didn’t charge anything as not happy they’d fixed it

Any thoughts here? Thinking of getting/taking to specialist air con person

Ours is doing something very similar. I think the expansion valve is stuck/blocked.

Are there any final left on the condensor at the front of the rad
Seen a few cars with all the fins corroded

The condenser is new - changed whilst having clutch done as it was corroded

Is the electric fan working when the compressor kicks in? Our MX-5 had similar symptoms. In had an AC man check the gas and it was fine with no leaks, but I noticed the fan wasn't cutting in at all.

Replaced the fan and it has been fine for the last few years.
