Hi there, I just bought a 2004 Toyota RAV4 top of the range model with a built-in sat nav which I have managed to get working by changing the fuse. However when I put it into reverse it comes up with no signal for the reversing light which is still intact as far as I can see below the reg plate at the back. If anyone happens to know any suggestions on how to get it working that would be much appreciated I'm thinking it's the fuse but I don't know where it's located and I've tried looking it up online on the website which I found for fixing the sat nav but it does not specify which one is for the reversing light many thanks.

Do you mean reversing camera?
Otherwise your post is nonsense.

You need to check the connectors on the back of the camera and the Sat Nav, which I am pretty sure is in the spare wheel?

Yes I do I don't know why I said reversing light I meant camera! The spare wheel was on the back of the boot so don't think it's that on the outside

Is this a stock setup or an aftermarket one?

I'm not sure, the sat nav I was told by the seller was after market but it loads up with Toyota everytime. The camera looks like it's been there since it was made.

A lot of aftermarket stereos have options for a splash screen with a car logo. I've got a Mazda logo splash screen on the android auto head unit on my campervan. Some pictures might help.

2004 OEM sat nav was prehistoric and reverse cameras pretty rare, suspect it’s an aftermarket unit with a Toyota splash graphic.

Should I just get another reversing camera with a screen and give up on fixing it?

I will change the fuse for the reg light and I'm taking it to Halfords they might know but the rear sensors work fine?!

Is it a manual gearbox? Does the reverse switch in the gearbox work?

No it's automatic, it engages to no signal in reverse so it must be a fuse or unplugged connection as the screen knows it's in reverse but just shows no signal. The reverse sensors work well

The reversing camera gives a feed to the back of your sat nav unit. It will likely be a round yellow plug. That will either be a cable that runs from the back of the car to the front or it will use wireless transmitters. If it's the latter, it could be that one of the transmitters is broken or not getting power or isn't connected properly to the camera or the sat nav unit. If it's hard wired all the way through, check all of the connections on it.

Personally, unless you desperately need it, I'd maybe just leave it be. If you do need it, I wouldn't suggest Halfords is the place to go to fix it. Probably best taking it to a local car stereo place.
