Hi,

Hope everyone here is well.

I have a VW polo where the 'defroster flap control motor V107' has fallen off a cliff. It's a common enough issue. I am looking to replace the part and through research have found it's part number is '6R0907511D', there tend to be pricey for what they are, VW dealer quoted £215, not a price I want to spend on a small motor which just flips vents open and close. There also doesn't seem to be any of this specific part number online. I see alternative parts which look similar to mine for much cheaper, such as '6R0907511C', the only difference I can notice is the last letter in the part number and the much more affordable price of £80. However this part number in my vehicle lines up to 'temperature flap control motor V68'.

When I look at physical images of these parts I do not see how they are different. Other than the dial being different colours.

Could anyone give me their 2 cents on this situation?

Here are images of the parts

Could it be a vag range part but not specifically vw? When I wanted an engine cover for my caddy the skoda and seat ones fitted(half the time the vw badge was under the manufacturer badge anyway) but the code had a different letter at the end. Same part different badge.

The teeth are in a different position so unless you can reseat them won't be interchangeable as the alternative one won't engage with the flaps. Also possible they rotate in different directions or by a different amount.

What's actually broken?

The motor or the cog/cam?

Haven’t removed it from the vehicle to diagnose it yet. Looks like a pain in the arse job, removed glove box but part seems to be stuck between the heating unit and the centre console. Entire dash seems to have to be removed. I know the issue is in that part as VCDS is flagging faults in ‘Motor for defroster flap’ such as ‘Actuator Stuck’ and ‘position sensor for defroster flap short to ground’.

Good spot. Potentially I can make shift a working unit as I still have the non-functional part.

They’re both VW parts, I have both in my vehicle already as you can see in this diagram.

Ive just messed around with these on my Skoda Fabia, i think there are very similar.
There is a calibration procedure that can be done on vcds, id try that first, a google search will bring this up.
i removed mine split the casing and cleaned out the position sensor with some electrical cleaner, seemed to work ok afterwards.
There is a video on you tube on how to do it, access is a pita to them agreed.

Counting clockwise, the second and third teeth on the yellow cog have a web joining the base that isn’t there on the black one.

The last four teeth on the black one are also deeper than the rest but the angle of the photo means you can’t see if this is also the case on the yellow one
