Strange noise when turning
Discussion
Hi I have a Kodiaq 4x4 and I’ve noticed a brief deep drone/hum when I turn out of a junction.
The sound only occurs when I am accelerating from a standstill and turning at the same time, so it’s most common to hear when coming out of a junction.
I haven’t heard it happen when accelerating in a straight line or on more gentle bends. Generally it’s on 90 degree turns, that it happens.
The sound itself is only momentary.
I have an approved used warranty on the car but the dealer warned me that if they investigate and find nothing or that it isn’t a warranty item, they will charge £160 for the inspection.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Have dealers always done the "Pay for diagnostics and figure out if it's warranty later" trick or is that a more recent invention?
I seem to get away with it at Honda as the service managers are very pleasant, but that doesn't seem to be a universal experience:- Very irksome to me; I'd rather pay and fix it myself in most cases than go through the warranty dance of multiple visits for diagnostics then rectification, especially if I'm paying a deposit to play for the chance of a repair that may well cost less than the diagnostic fee, especially in cases (Admittedly not this case) where a fault can be diagnosed by looking at something for all of thirty seconds and saying "Yup, That's wrong"
Perhaps that's the idea?

Probably because you don't get stupid problems like that with a Honda - it's not plagued with German engineering. 😄Have dealers always done the "Pay for diagnostics and figure out if it's warranty later" trick or is that a more recent invention?

Vaguely similar - Haldex unit in that case.
(Just had mine's oil changed, it's not part of the standard service).

That’s very interesting thanks. It sounds much like what I’m experiencing. The question is, would a haldex service be an approved used warranty item? I don’t really want to pay £160 just to be told no. (Just had mine's oil changed, it's not part of the standard service).
