I'm looking for a hydraulic jack that I can carry in the boot at all times

It does not need to be high lift, or even long reach, but it does need to be able to clear 130mm

I've been carrying a scissor jack recently, but unless I'm on absolutely flat, level land I can't use it

Any suggestions?

Bottle jack?

One with a wide foot will give a bit more option for uneven ground.

That would be great, if it could clear 130mm

The one I have is about 150mm

Several trolley jacks choose from at Halfords.
Would this one suit?

Thanks, I need to check the weight of that Halfords jack

I'm considering a similarly priced jack that is 10.5kg, heavier than I was hoping, but less that most which appear to be around 15kg

https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?pro...

Or the the much more expensive Clarke jack which is just 1kg heavier

Not sure I can justify spending that much though

There are quite a few 125mm options like this for example https://www.amazon.co.uk/BGS-technic-70041-Hydraul...

Many thanks, I did find those eventually, but with a maximum lift of 100mm, that probably wouldn't be enough

Oh dear, I've actually found what I'm looking for, except it's £200

Only 2.5kg

https://www.powertoolsdirect.com/sip-winntec-from-...

Edit: seems that site is wrong, other sites are saying 10kg, so no longer in contention

Have you considered an exhaust jack?

My 'track' jack is a small Halfords trolley jack bought for £50 or so thirty years ago and still going strong. It looks similar to the small ones somebody linked to below.

It is a bit heavier than necessary but very small and compact. The handle is removable and sits on top of the frame so it's easy to find. You'd want something bigger for every day use but being small enough to chuck in a tool bag makes it very convenient.

The Big Orange type? Yes

But they seem to be advertised solely for off road, and I imagine there's a reason for that

As an aside, would it would on a twin pipe exhaust with an H pipe? Would you have to bung up one side?

Can't see why they're advertised solely for off road use, but I can see why they're especially handy for same; they're stable on uneven ground, which is why the rally boys love 'em. Quick too.
Yes, you'd need a bung.

Thanks, problem is it's 15kg, whereas the Clarke one is under 12kg and only a few quid more

It seems the 2 ton jacks are all around 15kg, but if I go for 1.3 or 1.5 ton they're nearer 11kg

Do you need to remove a wheel? Perhaps a ramp could work if not

Thanks I like that one, at just 7kg it's the lightest I've looked at, and with a min height of 130mm it should be fine, and I like the price

Let me know how it goes, thinking of one for myself, to sit in the tool tray of the 4 post.....

For the application I'm looking for I'm wondering about a bottle jack as it then doesn't need to roll as the car lifts with a trolley jack but when i had a bottle jack I was always concerned that it would topple over as they seemed unstable.
