Volkswagon golf 6 abs unit

Hi guys

My sons golf has had the famous flashing esp abs lights flashing along with three beeps. I took it to 2 garages and they connected it to a diag machine. Both of them said that its the abs bloc that is faulty.

The problem is that if i buy a new one unit it will need reprogramming by volkswagen.

So im thinking of the following

1 sending it the vw garage and wait for a 1000 plus bill
2 taking off the unit myself and sending it away to be reconditioned so it wont need reprogrammed
3 getting a secondhand unit and buying an autotel etc to do the reprogramming

What would you do? Is the procedure difficult to change a unit? And is it doable at home.

Are you really sure it’s the abs unit

If you are, remove and send it to ecu testing. It won’t need coding.

Yes i had 2 garages give the 01276 fault.

I have found a company that restores them so ill give it to them.
