Hey guys, so im now onto my second set of roof bars that are 'supposed' to fit my 2008 Peugeot 308, but the sets i have been buying have both come with a bolts that are clearly supposed to mate with a threaded anchor point, my problem is i have the anchor points but they are just like little mushrooms, no threads to be seen! ...am i being stoopid here? has anyone had experience of mounting bars to this kind of fixed point, how is it done?

i dont understand how the bars im buying can be advertised for my model/year and not be correct!

Is that a wide-headed allen bolt that's been screwed into a female thread on the car? Perhaps for a roofrack system from a previous owner that hasn't been removed upon sale?

Agree with larrylamb, that does look like an Allen headed bolt in a threaded insert.

The bolt in the picture plugs the whole, otherwise you'd have water running through the car.
Make sure you use rubber washers when fitting the new one and don't over tighten them as you're in for a bad time if one snaps.

Probably unrelated, but Rover 75/MG ZTs come with the anchor points full of paint from the factory, it's just a blob.

Stick a screwdriver in and the blob unscrews / pulls out.

You seem to be implying that the OP should read the instructions?

Joking aside, he has likely decided to buy cheap generic ones on ebay and they clearly aren't actually compatible unless they fit in the same way.

OP, how about sending us a link to the ones you have bought.

These look like they should fit.

thanks for the replies guys, so yep turns out the 'mushroom' is a threaded insert that i can remove revealing the female thread that the bars ive bought bolt into... slightly embarrassed that i didn't figure that out sooner doh!

I guess some types of bar have the clamp mechanism above that can receive the mushroom and some bolt direct into the frame.

sorted..cheers.
