Hi,

I have a 2010 AUDI S3 8P. My central locking system is extremely weak. My key fob (both) seem to not function once I get further than 5 meters away, surely this cannot be right. However once closer to the car everything works normal as supposed to be.

I do not believe my keys are faulty as the chances that both keys are malfunctioning would be slim (I assume?).
Hence it makes me lean towards the central locking system being faulty.

Doing some diggings I have found some diagrams, but I still not certain on what to do actually fix the issue. Should I clean up some connectors? As it seems the rear window is used to 'amplify' the connection, should I clean the entire back of the window and check from strong continuity? Should I replace the left aerial module (but then will I need to recode the vehicle?)? The left aerial module further goes onto to two other control units, do I follow up to these units to check connectivity?

Many thanks!

Sometimes, local interference can block or reduce signal. Try with your car in a different location.

If it lives in the tailgate area then I'd do a visual on it for signs of corrosion.

Always clean contacts of every connector you can access. Just unplugging and replugging several times can make a big difference.

Especially if it uses the same wiper motor with integrated washer (washes through the motor spindle) as my S4, my Wife's Q2 and many other Audi models.

I've just had to replace the wiper motor in the S4 because the inside had corroded and water was leaking into the mechanism/electrics, causing it to run on and/or stop out of position whilst, at the same time making puddles in the boot.

I don't know if it's the same on the A3 and if so whether water could get to anything central locking related?

If it were me I would start with changing the remote battery first.
