Insuring your home workshop
Discussion
Not a technical question but rather one that I suspect we in Home Mechanics come up against more than most.
What do you do about insuring your home workshop/garage?
I know my household policy will not cover the full contents of mine, and I suspect would not cover rebuilding costs if it caught fire so I need to do something about it.
This isn't some insta-worthy joiner's workshop full of Festool and CNC machines; we're talking a home-tinkerer workshop of about 20 square metres. Timber frame/OSB/cladding walls and steel security doors. I've not done an inventory but I'd estimated about £10k of tools and equipment.
What would you be doing about insuring something like that?

I have been through this, i have built a large workshop at home and had a lot of issues. What do you do about insuring your home workshop/garage?

Commercial insurance would not touch me as i am not a business although i have all the same equipment. Normal household ins would not cover it, so was stuck.
I had to go with a trusted broker who combined my house with the workshop and all the outbuildings.
I was with Confidas for years as they offered unlimited cover for both the house and the outbuildings, but this year they pulled that, so now with ,Aviva Private Clients but i do have limits on mainy the rebuild costs but i was happy with it all.
I can pass on the brokers name if you want ?
