Transit Connect losing coolant?

Wasn't sure where to put this, thought there was a mechanical section but cant find it ?
The young chap that has done some electrical work for us was asking me about his 2014 Transit Connect losing coolant, sounds like he has a hectic schedule and his van giving troubles is driving him mad.
Its been looked at and he has been told its not the headgasket, its had a new thermostat and coolant tank lid.
He topped it right up last night and it has dropped to half, ometimes he comes to it and its dropped right down and takes loads to fill. I had a look round with an inspection light and couldnt see anything, he did say the heater can sometimes be intermittent. Otherwise runs ok and hasnt overheated apparently, no other symptoms.
Any suggestions as to how to proceed ?

If this is the 1560cc diesel from Citroen/Peugeot it could be that it is about to overheat & need a replacement engine.

Obviously, not saying this is your issue, but it is possible.
If this is the 1560cc diesel from Citroen/Peugeot it could be that it is about to overheat & need a replacement engine.

Intermittent heater may just be due to low coolant levels circulating but that’s not a good thing obviously.
Did he mention whether the coolant ends up on the floor or does it disappear ie end up in the engine?
Turbos are usually water cooled and could be a source of leaks especially given the heat cycles they go through.

I think its a Ford unit, Duratorq, unless that is a rebadged PSA one ?If this is the 1560cc diesel from Citroen/Peugeot it could be that it is about to overheat & need a replacement engine.

ETA, pic of the Volvo D4162T, which is the Ford DV6C engine if my google fu is working today.
It was used from about 2011 to 2017 ish in various manufacturers.
