I have a 57 reg honda jazz. I've used 5w-30 engine oil before. I found a shell one at euro carparts that was £6.70 for a litre. It's shell helix HX8 5W-30. I bought it and then realised you can put your number plate on the website and it gives you the correct oil for your car. All the oils that come up are 5w-30 however the one I bought doesn't show. I haven't used it yet but I'm worried now that it could be the wrong oil. Are there specific types of 5w-30 oil. Is it better to go and buy a the correct one or am I OK to use this.

Have a look at the ACEA number, usually written as Ax/Bx/Cx (where x is some number) and check the one you have matches the one you need.

It says c3. Some of the ones that say they are compatible say c3 and using the link you gave me also some of them are c3 when I enter my reg. I just hesitated when it didn't come up on some of the sites where you enter the numberplate even though they sell it

The description of the ACEA ratings do say that the low SAPS C3 oils may not be suitable for some older engines, but if the search function based on your car is recommending them then you should be okay. Particularly if it's only for a top up.

Your manual may say exactly what it is expecting.
