Short answer: Yes, probably

Long answer: Just change it while you have it apart, it’s a few hundred quid you would be glad you spent/be annoyed you didn’t spend it it fails in 6 months.

This 100%

I changed a box on a 106 gti years ago with a mate. A week later we had the box back out putting a clutch init in the snow… it wasn’t fun.

It does look in good condition but it's not worth the risk.
I would absolutely change it without any doubt. Clean up the flywheel and change the friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing.

As above, under these circumstances I would not consider refitting a clutch friction plate & release bearing (as a minimum) unless I had done it myself in the last year on my own car.

unless you are dead broke buy a new clutch and hope you never have to man handle that box back on again

Just been drybummed for £376.... new clutch kit on route had to buy the full valeo smf conversion kit.. car was only £350! redface
Thankfully I've got a transmission jack and I've dropped the subframe so putting back shouldn't be too terrible... touch wood!

thanks chaps

So car spares should become cheaper as cars age?

I have noticed how much spares have increased in cost in the past two years . That and the abundance of hopeless cheap options ,Drivetec as an example from GSF.
Running some low cost vehicles myself I often make the comparison in my head of the value of the parts against that of the vehicle.

From memory those should have dual mass flywheel on them, and has been converted to a solid flywheel, it might be worth checking that it had a mass damper on the belt end of the crank, its an important thing that is often over looked when removing a dual mass flywheel, as with a solid flywheel there is nothing to absorb vibrations.
