Was doing a fluid change on my S2000 yesterday and all was going well until i got to the last caliper.
The bleed nipple threads in the caliper are stripped so will need re tapping.
Existing looks like M10 X 1.25.
Replacement caliper is around £50 for a rebuilt no name ebay special.
Any point in re threading it or do i just buy a new caliper?

I'd helicoil it if you're feeling up to it - probably stronger than the original that way.

I can do that, think I may have a kit somewhere I have not used and forgotten about!

Like the other guy said; careful on the depth. Turn it upside down when snapping off the tang, make sure you get it out.

That is the tricky part.

In an ideal world you'd set a depth stop on the pillar drill. If you are braving it with a hand drill then try and get a depth stop collet to fit on the drill bit.
Or just do a 'watch this' and mark the depth with a sharpie or tape biggrin

I stand corrected, a search around seems likely that 1.25 could well be true.

I wasn't saying it would for sure be different, just it's best to check, as brake hydraulics are one of the areas where M10x1.0 isn't unusual.

I've ordered a caliper now anyway, may attempt to repair the other one when it's off as a spare.

Note if it is M10x1.0 and you don't have a tap to clean it up after removing the old nipple, for a one off job you could ask a mechanic at a decent bicycle shop if they have one they can run down it, as it's the standard thread for a rear derailleur mount.

helicoils arent great, they can unwind, i prefer time serts they also have the advantage of no tang to remove
