Lexus 450 - Alarm
Discussion
The alarm on my Lexus now goes off randomly when the car is in lock mode. As a short term fix, I do not lock the car.
from this i am assuming it is an electrical fault. My local garage that does all the work and servicing, conducted a diagnostic test, but no errors appeared for the alarm .Their suggestion was to take it to a Lexus main dealer. My experience of Lexus main dealers, is one of daylight robbery and now the car is 12 years old am am reticent to use their services. i did however call them and explained my issue and they said they would do their own diagnostic test. (I have no reason to believe the results would be any different). But here is the rub, they want £198 to do the test !
Last time I had an electrical issue it was the battery which had corroded leads. Again they undertook the diagnostic, couldnt find out what the problem was with that and the proceeded to trace the problem by starting with taking out the interior dash, which i was informed would be anywhere between a 2 and 4 hour job and this was 8 years ago at £185 per hour. The final bill was £850 !!!
I cannot face the same spend over a faulty alarm or wiring.
My question is, is there a short cit? can I isolate the alarm? disconnect the alarm ? or how would I locate an mechanic who could do this at more rates?
In the meantime I have booked an RAC visit, to see if they can be more helpful ( they have been in the past )
