Hi

I am about to start my own business next year doing Smart Repair and was going to ask you for some advise, what would be the best way to securely fix a compressor to that back of my van and have complete confidence that it will not move in an accident if that was ever to happen.

I had one idea which involve welding some metal brackets in the back of the van floor, and then using some heavy duty bolts to lock down the compressor to the welded bracket. The other idea is to just use tie down straps and strap the compressor to the bulkhead.

Any advise, ideas to a solution are welcome.

We weld in a couple of long c sections into the floor the width of the compressors feet apart and then sit the compressor on them and bolt through. If you drill the holes first and then put the bolt through before you weld them down all you have to do is sit the compressor on and do the nut up. Lifting it off of the floor an extra inch means that you can coil any hose up and keep it between the 2 c sections and gives you a bit more room to get a broom under there than if it was fixed straight to the floor.

Do all of the hard work first. Plan where you are going to put it, get the sections you need, measure and mark them up and just pop down to a backstreet garage and bung them a drink. It will only take them 10 minutes if you sort everything out and theyll happily do it, Im always turning up at my one waving £20 about for another favour smile

That sounds like a good plane to me, I can get the C sections I need, cut them down to size, drill the holes, then mark out where they need welding to the van, so all the welder has to do is weld them down. scratchchin
