Our local council had it's O licence revoked by the Traffic Commissioner ten days ago and since then services like refuse collection have been suspended.

Evidently the transport manager left last summer and whilst moves were made to qualify someone else it never happened.

The council keep putting out statements that it is all in hand but just how quickly can the Traffic Commissioner issue a new O licence if they are minded to do so?

Given the need to advertise the application, I cannot see how it can be done in under 3 weeks.

Can they contract out to someone as an emergency measure?

This is a bit of an aged thread now.

It took about a month to get the licence reissued and the council crews back out. In the meantime there was some contracting out but it was very limited and focused on commercial and for residents our rubbish just piled up.

It was a pretty embarrassing position for a significant council to find themselves without any ability to run their fleet
