Removing black streaks on a motorhome

Exactly the same as title really. bd things will not go away. What is the best stuff to use?

Autoglym tar spot remover or similar. If its a textured panel you could alway try some cream cleaner?

You can get ' black streak remover'. I dont know whats in it but I've tried it on boats and it works.

If you drive it on the narrow lanes in Devon or the Cotseolds, I recommend Semtex

Otherwise auto glum colour restorer.


I have left the auto correct because it made me smile.

The easiest to use in my experience is the Autoglym caravan and motorhome cleaner, spray it on and wipe off.

I bought some black streak remover from Aldi. Cheap and does the job. They don't always have it in but worth a look in the 'man' aisles

You can also use the Aldi caravan cleaner neat to the same effect. Apply with a damp cloth in a circular motion, leave for a few minutes then rinse off.

I found cleaning the seals around the windows roof areas help to stop the black streaks forming in the first place.

Thanks all and plenty of thoughts here. I never thought of somewhere like Aldi. But Autoglym seems to an idea.

Then again that cream cleaner looks good as well. AGGGGHHHH!!! Choices.

I am just glad someone has said do NOT use product x so it looks like most things work. I am always afraid of using cheaper stuff incase it kills the paintwork.

I use Auto Glym Tar remover on a soft cloth. Just make sure you give the area a good wash and rinse afterwards and it would advisable to give it a quick once over with some polish again too.

AutoGlym seems to be coming out tops. Stupid question but what exactly are these streaks? I thought it was coming from the rubber but they appear everywhere.

Another vote for Autoglym here - I use their super resin polish and then go over with a couple coats of their extra gloss protection (which makes removing the black streaks next time much easier!). As for what causes them, it shows the route water takes when it runs off the surface (like a series of streams)and is the air contamination that is left behind. Basically the water keeps taking the same routes....if that makes sense.

Not trying to be offensive but 'Muckoff'. You can get it from Halfords or any Bike shop. Wet the caravan/motorhome, spray it on and leave it for a minute. Wipe it around to remove the streaks, hose/wet sponge off. I think that the cycling crowd use it to clean mountain bikes, etc.

We use it on our caravan. Works a treat.

Gave mine a buff up yesterday - Silky as mentioned above.

Brilliant stuff! Have a shop around and you can get it for around £4-£5.
