Currently basking in the 35 degree heat in France in our motorhome. It's grand.

Booked on a site to replenish water etc and the other half plugged the iron into the three pin socket in the van which tripped the supply. Iron would appear fooked.

If we buy a French iron with their plug can we cut the plug off and rewire it to a UK plug so it will fit the socket. ( don't have an three pin to two pin adapter )

Ta very much,
Andy.

Good stuff. Thanks.
Looks like it's a trip to Carrefour tomorrow then. Might as well top up on those rather cheap crates of Leffe at the same time !

To save you cutting the plug off, I'm sure you could buy an adaptor at the same place as you buy the iron.

Leffe, a man after my own heart, it's my favourite tipple too and the only beer in my fridge at the moment. Have you tried the Whitbread hop ones with the green foil top? That really is nice...

Is it not because the iron exceeds the 1500w that many sites limit you to? I've had this in the past with a kettle; the one supplied in the rental van worked fine but took half the morning to boil, our own kettle popped the trip as soon as it was switched on.

You sure? Plug may be a 16a one but it doesn't mean the supply is, parents go touring Europe most years and ways complain about small breakers in the feeds meaning that they can't run much off electric.

Yep, always found french campsite electrics to be as effective as their car electrics.

Yes did this. Iron 9.99 euros, adapter 8.99. Works fine so sorted. Told SWMBO that she can iron my tee shirts tomorow - looks unimpressed, Umm.
