Hi all,

Finally collected our caravan today.

Really happy with it. Going to have a proper play with it tomorrow but spent the afternoon making sure it’s secure.

I fitted the Alko Hitchcock no problem but struggled a bit with the Alko wheel locks. The instructions say to jack the caravan to fit the wheel locks but I don’t have a jack. I’ve managed to fit one wheel lock but can’t fit the second as the wheel isn’t aligned with the locking point.

Is there an easy way round this without jacking the caravan up every time we fit and remove the locks? Seems a faff to be jacking the van if we are on a site on grass.

Final question - 2 wheels need securing, I assume they should both be on the same side of the ‘van?

Thanks in advance.

Yes on same side. Nope... jacking is what is required - completely daft. Some people fit one wheel lock and one wheel clamp.

There is an inflatable device you can get that will allow you to raise the caravan with air. My suspicion is that the jack will be as quick.

I've got a twin axle 'van, instead of the Alko locks, I've got the Nemesis ones. Much easier and in spite of what others may say, I've had no insurance cover issues.

Also make sure you use jacking points these bolt into the chassis as you are not supposed to jack on the chassis.

Got the single axle one of these for levelling on uneven pitches, I also have an Alko lock but less of an issue aligning it with one wheel! Very good and would definitely buy the twin version if I had a twin.
