Managed to get out in our caravan for the first time last weekend and I saw a few Caravans with 2 water butts. I couldn’t tell if they were just side by side (as in when one runs out just go out and connect the second) or whether they were connected.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to connect two water butts together? Would mean half as many trips to refill.

You could put one of them on a stand and siphon water from one to the other. That’s a faff everytime, it would give you extended runtime. I think a lot of people have two so that when they run out it’s a simple swap over and fill the spare later.

I have found that with a little washing up and two short showers we empty a 45l aqua roll. Therefor know after dinner sometime fill it up. Then again after showers.

It doesn’t actually save you any trips to the water as you still have to fill both of them. Also consider lifting one above the other!

Thanks. I did wonder whether people just had the second as a standby/backup. If that’s the case then like you say it doesn’t actually save you any trips. Would only make sense if I could connect 2.

I found that washing up, bathing the 15 month old, and my wife showering, it finally ran out on my shower so couldn’t quite manage a full day on one 40 litre butt. Might have to try to use a little more sparingly next time haha.

On another note, where do you guys and girls store the water butt(s) and waste butt(s) when travelling? We had them just in the caravan but wondered how much they would roll around as I couldn’t see an easy way to tie them down.

I put my Aquaroll, Wastemaster and bin in the bathroom. They each have a storage bag and fit snugly in the space on the floor. Not all layouts will fit both the Aquaroll and Wastemaster in the bathroom so some use a spreader bar between the front seat and place everything behind that.

Either way watch your nose weights as the storage at the back of the van will greatly reduce your nose weight whereas at the front can increase it. It's also essential that nothing is able to slide front to back as this effects the nose weight during the journey.

Could you fashion something using one of these:

Two Aquarolls, one on top of the other. The bottom one has the float valve assembly in the side hole fed from an outlet from the top one. You'd have to modify a cap with a hose connector for the top one or maybe fix the hose onto a tap like this:

It would need a bit of juggling the arrangement to get the top outlet in the right position to empty the top barrell.
