Living life in a campervan?
Discussion
Hi there, long story short I'm 30 and don't have a career etc to pay rent with.
My mom is gonna sell the house in a few years and I can't see myself living the life of an average 9-5 drone.
I think the solution is to buy a campervan and live in that but does anyone on here have first hand experience?

You’ve probably been watching to many YouTube videos .
This isn’t America where there’s so much land you can park up easily , where in the winter you head to Arizona or New Mexico then head north in the summer .
I’d suggest renting a camper in the winter then trying it for a week , no campsites no electric hook up and see how you get on .

You'll need an address for licence, insurance etc, there are ways around that, some legal, some not so. You'll need money (savings or an income) to cover running costs & the cost of campsites, while it is possible to live "off grid" for a while, you still need to be able to fill with water, dump your waste etc. Unless you get something fairly large it may seem a bit clostrophobic for full time life.
We've just done 18 months in our motorhome. 9 on the road and 9 on the drive of our house build.
It is not a cheap life. You will need to live on campsites, the UK is not van friendly at all. Campsite will set you back £400+ a month if you can find one that takes full timers.
Full time living insurance is not cheap, and often has age limits on the van. £100 a month for us.
Live in a van because you want to travel and its an amazing lifestyle? Go for it.
Live in a van because you don't want a job and can't afford anything else? This isn't Instagram.

I've considered this.
I work in a place with good showers, 24 hour access and electrical hook ups and lots of parking space.
But the cold in winter, need to store some belongings elsewhere and general discomfort put me off. I think it's a nice idea that sounds better than younger you are, but I think in reality some form of real home is best.

Sounds like an good idea. I just seen the Volkswagen Grand California, it's even got a shower and a toilet in it, quite expensive though.
Where would you refill the water for the shower and empty the toilet ?

I am trying to get a job and have had part time dead end jobs in the past but I'm never gonna earn a living from them.
As for my handle, well, I just want to live my youth I never had. I want to play the field a bit, ya know

I lived in one for 8 months or so. It was great, but that was in Australia which is much more friendly to such things and was backpacking so with a clear end date to it. I wouldn't want to do it without some sort of goal you are trying to achieve. As come winter it will be miserable. I doubt it would be any cheaper than a shared house either if doing it properly.
