Silverstone F1 2020
Discussion
Never been to silver stone to watch the F1, but my wife has agreed we can go next year!
Assuming it will book up quickly I have been doing a little looking, but there seems to be more options than I thought.
I hd assumed we would book a site that was close for a few nights each side of the weekend, then just get a weekend pass for the circuit.
But there is a recommended campsite called woodlands - with lively party tickets etc!?
Also talking to a friend he said it would be a nightmare driving in on race day.
Any recommendations?

I caravanned at Woodlands for the 2012 Silverstone GP. It's within the Silverstone grounds and you just walk to the track.
Book a pitch with electrics if needed. There was a day in the year when bookings started being taken, I rang them on the dot and secured a pitch.
Whilst the pitch is big enough for a caravan & car, expect your car to be blocked in by other campers, its the way it is. No real reason to leave the site in a car to be honest.
When you arrive there are marshals directing you to your pitch, they just fill them up from one end to the other, in rows. The camping areas are lengths of grass inbetween the woods, with pitches in rows. There are big generators placed amongst the pitches, and they are fairly noisy so try and avoid pitching right next to one.
I bought a Grandstand seat for Sunday race day right by the start/finish line. A Grandstand seat gives you an allocated seat at your chosen Grandstand on the race day, and on the previous days it allows you to roam from one Grandstand to another, assuming there are empty seats.
Go for the fu period, Thursday to Monday, then you can go to the end of race show on the Sunday night, where Eddie Jordan and his band performed.

Dadford Road is a little bit further out than Woodlands, but should be cheaper, also worth bearing in mind that if it's like the Moto GP they'll charge you more if you have a 'live-in' vehicle than if you have the same size vehicle, 10 man tent and gazebo, which is why I'll not be back at Woodlands.
We have just stayed at woodlands for the Moto GP in a hired motorhome, you enter the circuit at Stowe if you stay on the family side, we paid for electric hook up and arrived at 8.30 pm on the Friday and left 10am Monday morning.
The family side closes up earlier than the lively side, the lively side has a purpose built shower block, the family side is a tent with steel containers. Its reasonably well organised, cleaners are always cleaning ..... I would stay there again.

We stay at Woodlands for the Classic in July, which is normally 2 weeks after the GP. There are about 20 of us that go now and its very convenient with tractors running us into the perimeter, loo blocks are clean and it isn't bad value if you stay the 3/4 nights as its a fixed price, so not sure if its the same for the GP. Woodlands is changing hands so not sure if anything will change.
