What tog of duvet for UK camping?
Discussion
Evening all,
Not a fan of sleeping bags - feel quite claustrophobic and i'm a restless sleeper and always end up twisted in them. I'm going to buy a single ikea duvet and use that instead. Anyone do similar and if so what tog did you go for? Will mostly be summer camping (perhaps the odd late spring or early autumn trip).
Thanks

Camping?
I use sleeping bags....my go-to is a “3 season” down bag.
My rule is that you can always unzip it, or even get out & lay on it......but if you are too cold, your night is wrecked!
Once spent an Easter night in a scout hut which had single glazed windows and a raised “camp bed” - coldest night of my life, & that was indoors!!
Insulation below is important too....nice air mattress helps, but if you have “just” a duvet, what will you lie on?
Spring and autumn can be cold overnight....so go larger and go warm!!

I've got a bed. I'll either have a 10cm or 7.5cm vango comfort self inflated matress. Decent amount of foam underneath so well insulated. Its more on top i'm needing sorted. From what i've read when you sleep on down it loses its insulation anyway so offers little protection underneath.
We’ve had some cold nights even in June/July, but last May it was especially cold overnight.
I got myself a double Vango Serenity, really cosy, plenty of room and can be used as a blanket/duvet if you get a bit too warm.
I’ve subsequently brought a caravan, but we still do the odd nights in a camper van and awning, best idea was an oil filled rad in the awning when you’re on hook up.

we have a raised air bed and use a 13.5 tog, it's usually pretty good in the UK under most circumstances, if it's a particularly warm early morning I will move to sleep on top of it till it's time to get up
Nice one. 13.5 sounds good to meEvoluzione said:
A duvet for camping? In the UK
Can you get a 200?
Made of stern stuff over the border. Plus the first 25 years of my life were spent in a quickly flung up post far tennement with single glazing and leaks and cracks all over the place. Sometimes you'd be aswell just sleeping outside
Can you get a 200?

Thanks for the replies guys. Now just waiting for Scottish Gov't to give the go ahead

I use an insulation mat under an airbed, otherwise I find the airbed just transmit the cold from the ground to me. Mind you last year I bought a camp bed.
Air beds suck out your body heat and invariable go flat anyway. A decent self inflating mattress on its own is much warmer and more comfortable.sbarclay62 said:
