I’m having a caravan made to spec and have requested AC.

The caravan co. have said it’s for me to find which one I want and they’ll fit... but I have NO idea what’s the best option here.

I want a simple unit - I’ve seen the roof units and they look good but what makes / models and specs should I be looking out for?

Many thanks for any tips

We recently had the Dometic freshjet 1700 fitted.

Works well, we have it in a 8.77m MH and it cooled to 18 degrees during the hottest July week.

Also is low start so it doesnt trip site electrics, and can be run from a domestic genny if off grid.

Thank you, I'll add this to my list of potentials!

It’s actually an AirStream replica being built from scratch by a company in the midlands - and when I say scratch, I mean literally! They do the framework and panels all in house. It’s properly certified and can be towed all over Europe. I’m having some specific things added such as a detachable a-frame, double glazed glass portholes and the like. It’s all new to me and so the AC is now on my to do list.

Looking at the Dometic stuff now; from the 1700 up to the 3000. Looking for slow start and quiet operation so researching which ones tick which boxes.

The 3000 seems to have a lower profile unit inside the vehicle but without seeing them all side by side, it’s not easy to tell or find specs. I might try to find a stockist of them all and go and have a look.

Wow, sounds cool! Heavy old things those. Pics would be great (during and after build!).

I'd go with the brand of AC that gets fitted to the higher spec normal caravans. Not sure what brand they are, but I know they are an option when buying certain brand new caravans.

My mum and dad have a very spiffy Fendt and it's got a Dometic unit on top.
