Come to Bristol, they are everywhere ! Seems if they are taxed, tested and insured and parked legally, there isn't much you can do. There are large communes of van dwellers all round here and have been for a few years.
Be interesting to see what happens when the low emissions zone kicks in. I bet most of the junk they run around in won't even have a euro rating. Most of them are eco freak save the planet rentamobs ironically driving around in old vans that chuck out 20 times more pollutants than a modern van would. Are they visiting a neighbour? If so, they'll probably leave soon.
Or are they actually living in a van and just wanted a quiet, safe street to park on? I'd be knocking on the door asking if they need anything.
Could be anything from thieving hippies to a decent couple who have lost their home thanks to covid or brexit or immigrants or chemtrails. I'd try to find a nice way of making them aware their presence isn't going unnoticed, by saying hello. From their response, you'd have a bit more info to see what your next steps might be; maybe nothing, or maybe get shouty and tell them to beat it or you'll notify Mrs Miggins, the Neighbourhood Security Committee Chairperson, and her husband Bert used to box in the RAF and is renowned for his short temper when he's had a can of Sweetheart Stout, so they'd better watch it!

I don't know much about the emissions zone proposed for Bristol but I am thinking that as long as they keep their vans inside the zone they won't hit repeat charges?MortyC137 said:

My road is a little off the beaten track. There are only 2 houses on a 400m stretch of a quite road on the edge of a village. My boundary on the road is about 150m. They have parked right outside our front door (probably trying to “borrow” internet - which I blocked last night). So yes the street is quiet and safe. Im not sure why they are here or why they picked this spot to put up camp. There’s certainly many more scenic places around here I’d stay if I was in their situation. Dartmoor is just 3 miles away. The coast is 7 miles away. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside. So bit of a mystery! Or are they actually living in a van and just wanted a quiet, safe street to park on? I'd be knocking on the door asking if they need anything.

Edited to add, yes they are living in it.

Give them a copy of the Alan bennet book. See if you can keep them for 15 years too.

In the late 70's I travelled around the uk touring with a band living in an old bus we where regularly moved on and told we could not camp on the road, and we used to park on waste ground / industrial areas.so i guess unless the law has changed you can get moved on. Ironically London was one of the easiest to park in, we used to park near some railway arches / scapyards near Camden and never had a problem even with the owners of the yards.

Won't be chucking out any pollutants if it's not moving unless they've got the engine running to charge batteries or whateverJamescrs said:
