Is there any way in Europe to hire a nice airstream or “proper” mobile home (big bus size, not converted transit)?

I don’t want to do pooping in a bucket, or showering over the toilet, but sort of like the idea of a mobile holiday travelling round a bit.

Googling hasn’t found anything, does anyone know of any company that does this?

Dutch, but transferred from the old-fashioned UK one that allowed a fair few of the heavier categories to be driven.

Licensing wise definitely BE for a trailer airstream (but some are likely too heavy to be towed by most UK 4x4s (3.5t)... or C1 for an average big motorhome, maybe likely C for those huge American coach-sized things.

I've only ever seen stuff like that a handful of times in the UK, and it is almost always for some kind of commercial/retail use. Guess that, if an airstream is imported, it is far more profitable to use it for advertising and pop-up stuff etc. than renting. Suggest if you can find somewhere, it will be EXTREMELY expensive to rent.

If you want to go "all-in" I have seen some big and fancy stuff in the Santa Pod Pits :

I guess their fleet should cover your needs.

Thanks. I had a look but none of them are for self-drive hire.

It seems as though they just don’t exist here, and I’ll have to wait for a chance to do it in the US.

I think that my Range Rover’s rated for 3.5 tonnes, and it’s got enough engine to manage it comfortably, but as you say, the market in the UK seems to be more about corporate events than holidays.

It’s a pity.

Give these a call https://www.vintageairstreams.co.uk/airstreams-for...

As a word of warning Sam is quite a character but a nice enough chap! I’d ignore the website and give him a call, he’s better with airstreams than websites!

That’s not for taking with you, it’s delivered to one location and taken away afterwards. I was looking for something to tour with.

As above, this doesn’t seem to be for rental to take away, it’s delivered to a location and picked up afterwards.

Maybe it makes sense for me to buy one, and when it’s not touring park it on a hillside in the Pyrenees next to a hot tub and a front porch.
