Covid caravan prices???

Yep, I looked at several and noticed the same, we have only looked recently no idea about the values pre covid.
We bought a 98 year at the start of covid for £1200 4.7m yes its like my Grans lounge but were really enjoying, we tow it with a t5 so easy, were looking to upgrade but unsure of covid tax so we'll wait a bit and save ready for next year's bargains?
They may drop in price then who knows. We might get a dog as well, lol.

That was the same in pre covid in 2019. At the time I was looking for a 2nd hand caravan and noticed this - 2012 caravan was £12k, 2015 was £15k etc, so we ended up buying a brand new 2019 caravan dealer special for £17k. Made sense.Eg a 2010 van is £10000 and a 2008 van is £8000
I would expect that Covid would have pushed the prices up even more. Last summer my local dealer had sold every caravan they had, new and 2nd hand, they didn't have a single caravan in their yard. They would have sold the new ones at full retail without having to offer deals, and sold in advance of them being available. They told me that whilst they had done well they then had nothing to sell until the next years new caravans were released.

That could be a wise move if you can wait. If the time comes, the dealers will be rubbing their hands together, again. They will be able to offer the seller the lowest price to buy back, claiming they have loads of caravans being offered to them and can pick and choose which one they buy, plus claiming they will struggle to sell them on as nobody is buying caravans anymore. Selling private will be the best bet for those giving up their caravans, but the market may be flooded with a glut of caravans. I work in the trade, there's so little stock out there that it will be a long long time before we are being picky and bidding low prices for stock believe me!
It will take a long time to refill the empty forecourts and all dealers will be fighting for stock.
We arent making more money a the moment btw we are having to bid more to own stuff.
Manufacturers are also struggling to make new ones so used prices will stay strong for the forseeable

Save your money. Look early next year once people can book their 2 weeks package holiday with certainty.

Currently only 2x 2nd hand caravans in stock and very little new stock coming in due to the manufacturers struggling to keep up with demand.
As soon as they come in, they’re sold.
They’re not making much profit due to the low numbers of new stock arriving.

According to Autotrader (I realise there are other places to assess prices) there are 7 vans the same as mine (same year, model etc) for sale in the UK at the moment, ranging from £15999-£16999 at dealers.I got bid £10250 at the weekend from a dealer, someone is making money...
I am not surprised there is little stock , we have a 2009 Compass Rallye 462 , the s/h value is around £9k , which as it happens , is just under the price we paid about 7 years ago .The van is watertight and in excellent condition.
We did our usual , went to a caravan dealer to get supplies , toilet fluid etc , and took a fancy to a 3-4 year old Elddis , similar layout but with a few improvements priced at £12k , so the guy got his book out ,£6k was the starting offer ,going by the prices on some of his stock he is looking at around £3k profit less some workshop time for a service . If he did a similar deal with the caravan we were looking at , that suggests , up to £6000 profit on 2 caravans that very likely could be flipped with very little work .Did we ? Nope . the price to change was nowhere near good enough to tempt us . The dealers could be getting a bit greedy , due to the shortage of quality s/h stock.

The wife has decided she wants a tourer, to be fair we had spoken about it pre the pandemic but guess this has pushed us on.

There's a lot of overpriced rubbish about especially with some people thinking their van is worth bars of gold when in fact it's close to be scrapped or used as a goat shed.
On the flip side I've seen a few go for something that resemble a sensible price where you wouldn't be upside down when prices go to some kind of normality. Recently one came up about an hour away from me and we agreed a price for the whole set up (the van was a 2010 and came with 2 awnings, waste, water, levellers, full gas bottles, etc). Just before we're due to leave he messaged me and wanted another £250 from me to do the deal. We went out for lunch somewhere nice instead. It was probably worth it but hate people that change a deal (in their favour of course).
Good luck getting something sorted out but they are about. There are also a lot of traders advertising a private too. More so than normal.

The dealers that get the stock have to give the bigger money as the vans are up for more it's a vicious circle lol
