We have a twin axle Swift caravan, 10 years old so due for another set of tyres based on age, (I tend to change them at the recommended 5 year interval for safety). Size is 175/65/14 86T. Last time I bought Hankook vantra tyres at £48 each. Now the same tyre is £86 each. I've seen an alternative Kumho tyre with the same load index at £49 each. Any reason the Kumho tyre won't do just as well? I have used both brands of tyres before on cars and they seemed similar in grip and wear characteristics. I know there are cheaper strangely named Chinese brands out there but I tend to avoid those and go for a well known mid range brand. Thoughts?

Likewise, I would be quite happy with that choice (I actually have to do mine on my 2016 twin axle soon).

Do you tend to jack it up and take the wheels down to the tyre shop in your car? One side at a time?? I haven't had to do them before.

Cheers, will go for those.
Last time I took two at a time. I now have a level concrete area it sits on so will put it on 4 axle stands and take all at once. Also having the tyres that are taken off put onto a set of steel rims for my trailer.

If the price includes fitting just tow the caravan down to the tyre shop. I certainly just take my trailer in and leave them to it.

When I take them off I know its jacked up properly and wheel nuts torqued right putting them back on.

Last time i changed all 4 tyres on a TA, i got a mobile guy around to do it

Saved having to put it on axle stands and ferry 4 wheels to the local tyre shop !

Actually have gone for these in the end, a Kumho cargo tyre with a 90 load index.

We have had several price rises on tyres over the last year, biggest was a straight £5 per last year due to shipping costs

Nothing wrong with Kumho though.

Do the valves too!

Couldn't believe turning up to the storage one day and seeing half flat tyres. Marquis, the tight bastids, had indeed put all new tyres on upon our purchase of used van, but had not changed the valves which were cracked and leaking 2 years on.

So, jacked it up onto stands take both wheels on 20 mile round trip for new valves and balance, all for the sake of not changing the poxy valves!

Still can't believe it but there you go.
