We have come to the conclusion that we need to get a camping trailer but I’m unsure what size we need or what are the best makes to look at.
Whatever we get I also need to be able to transport 4 bikes (2 adult and 2 child) and with the roof of the car already taken up with a roof box I’m hoping this could be on top of the trailer.
Does anyone have any recommendations of trailers to look at and whether you can get 4 bikes on top?

Thanks

Anssems are good for this but lots have optional bars or can have generic roofbars bodged on.

Or bolt a generic tow bar on the back of the trailer and use a bike rack on that?

I recently purchased a Brenderup 1150s, seems to be a great size, and the option to add side extensions to make it a deeper trailer.

A deeper sided trailer, could mean the roof box isn’t needed, leaving the roof for the bikes to be mounted.

I went with the 1150 as it seemed to give a good load weight (600kg) and was a good overall size, vs other camping trailers.

I have an Erdr 243 trailer which is the largest they do that can be up ended by one person and stored upright. Can get cross bars for it to fit bike carriers or roof box, or instead fit a lid to keep contents dry. I don’t use mine for camping, but it’s a very nice trailer.

The longer the trailer the easier it is to reverse it as it appears in your mirrors sooner, whereas a tiny trailer can almost have Jack knifed before you realise.

I agree that a slightly bigger trailer would be easier to manoeuvre and hopefully mean we won’t run out of space!
It’s just finding the right one.

I'd be looking at a (used, loads on eBay) Erde trailer with the locking top box and roof bars, like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195216450340

Benefit of that is that you can then mount your roof box on top of your trailer (as long as you are within weight limits) freeing up the roof of your car to carry bikes on a conventional bike rack. Pack the heavier items down low in the trailer, bulky but lighter items in the roofbox. You could of course put bike carriers on those trailer bars, but I'd expect the bikes would be heavier than the roofbox + contents?

As long as you don't exceed the carrying capacity of 337kg you would be OK.

Alternatively some kind of hybrid set up like this?

I would personally avoid putting a towbar on the back of a trailer then fixing a towbar mounted bike rack to that as it shifts the balance of your trailer rearwards, would likely be more prone to fishtailing.
