10 Years ago we bought our first caravan. A 2005 Sprite. A light twin axle with bunks, it did service for 5 years when we had some great holidays with our daughter and usually one of her friends...

The dog slept here. And on occasion was ready for bed before us!

As my daughter turned 12 she grew. She no longer fitted in the bunk. It was time for a change.

I think it's cost me about £2k in lost value over ten years. And that is only because an awning rail needs resealing on the current one and has caused some damp.

It's now time to hang up the caravan. The price of sites means its sadly not the good value it used to be.

Oh - and the market is insane. I've either badly mispriced (don't think I have), but am getting almost constant messages and emails.

It's a shame, we swapped ours for a much more manageable trailer tent 2 years ago, and we haven't missed the hassle of the caravan.

I think site prices going up is not dissimilar to general cost of holidays and flights to be honest.

For example, I'm expecting to spend in the region of £4500 this summer for our holiday, 2 adults, 2 kids (11 and 13). 15 nights.

That includes return ferry, 2 nights B&B accommodation on the way to/from the campsite, and 13 nights at (an admittedly) pretty expensive campsite:

I've allowed £400 for fuel and £100/day for food/drink. There may be activities and things on top of this.

But in the summer holidays, can you actually get much of a villa/hotel holiday for 4 people for 16 days for £4500? I'm not sure you can really?

Yep mine is going this year as I have been offered almost twice what I paid 6 years ago! Yes I have done work and it’s in good condition but how!

Our daughter is 17 so the cost of holidays is falling as she won't be seen dead on holiday with her parents...

It truly is.

I recently sold ours much to the surprise and bewilderment to my wife. I bought one late last year from the original owner. It was a 2012 Lunar and they just wanted out of it as the recent £75pm fees were getting to them for the few times a year it was used. The fees were previously £45pm. Plus they're favourite site had increased nightly fees to £65 for a serviced pitch. I've had my name down on a few storage places local to me that looked OK'ish but not on the approved Insurers radar so it's been sitting on my driveway. Every time I looked it on there, it somehow angered me as I thought it looked 5hit. Like something the Dingles would have in the future.

Anyway, a boring tale followed a quick sale to a friend of a friend and it's now gone and the driveway looks somewhat better for it. The plus side is that I've recently bought another FFRR and instead of towing a large box on wheels, I'll fill the car up with a tent and spend a lot of money to replicate a homeless person. Every cloud and that ...

To the OP. Those twin axle caravans do look a nice place to be in cool

We sold our last caravan early last year, a ten year old Elddis 452 two-berth, for £7500 less than two years after buying it for £5500.
Just daft.
