On their own site they get great reviews and for a 5 man tent the 'value' appears insane.

Should I? Any drawbacks?

What do the history books say? smile

No experience of that tent but I've always been happy with decathlon gear over the years especially for the price point.

UK Campsite has a very good 'in the field' review of all makes of tents.

My observation is that Decathlon are budget build, functional but nothing special. Fine for the occasional holiday but not used by serious campers.

I'm intrigued, what makes someone a serious camper? And what makes a £300 Decathlon tent any different to a £400 Berghaus or Outwell tent, other than logos and marketing?

For the majority of us, for the majority of time, Decathlon gear including tents would suffice. I've had plenty of their stuff including a range of camping equipment and would have no problem recommending any of it, including poled and air-beam tents.

If you look at a selection of tents on the Decathlon website they have a ‘usage’ rating, some are ‘frequent’, some are ‘occasional’. Someone doing a lot of camping probably wouldn’t choose the latter.

They also have their own waterproofing test, whereas almost every other manufacturer lists the hydrostatic head so you can easily compare. Each to their own, if you’re happy with their product then enjoy it.

I’ve just chucked an Outwell after 15yrs use. That probably had 8 trips a year, not sure if that counts as ‘serious’ or not. The seam tape basically fell off, I could have repaired it but given the age I fancied something newer.

My £150, 4-man Decathlon tent is rated 'occasional' use. It's been out 6 or 7 times a year for 3 years and is still in top nick. In my experience Decathlon are pretty good at balancing price and quality across their range.
