Just finished all the Lee Child Jack Reacher books...really enjoyed them all easy light reading......

My question is can anyone else recomend something similar? I've had my fill of Patricia Cornwell and Tess Geretsen
Any ideas?

The new Jack Reacher is released tomorrow.

The Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly are good, about an LA homicide detective. Worth a read.

I would suggest the books by the author Michael Connelly.

Similar sort of detective plots but with slightly more fragile main characters.

The John Rain thrillers by Barry Eisler are as good if not better, I've read all of them!

Connelly - Harry Bosch
Deaver - Lincoln Ryhme
Rankin - Rebus

I'd recommend the above

I will suggest the author Robert Crais, he writes very good and easy to read crime novels with a good main character and plenty of action. Well worth a read smile

What about the old action writers I used to read? Desmond Bagley, Alistair Maclean and even perhaps Dick Francis? (you don't need to know/be into horses for his books)

Bint's suggestions are very good. Less violent and rather less overt action, but all three are proper writers who span a tale very well told. Perhaps add Geoffrey Jenkins for 60's style action e.g. ' A Grue of ice'. Of current writers I'd firmly suggest Geoffrey Seymour for a series of brilliant, and intelligent modern thrillers - a cut above average.

(I'd rather read almost anything than Lee Child, it must be said)

Robert Goddard does some good twisty books.

More quirky than Reacher.

Jeffrey Deaver - wrote The Bone Collector, which starred Angelica Jolie and, I think, Wesley Snipes. Wrote a few books in that series.

Stephen Leather - Dan "Spider" Shepherd (ex SAS type)
James Patterson - Alex Cross

Just about to conclude re-reading all the Reacher books (in the right order) and have the above waiting on my Kindle.......

Am a big fan of Lee Child books but also enjoy Jeffery Deaver and Dick Francis.

However a new suggestion is Harlan Coben. Some of his books are ok but some are brilliant. Probably my current favourite author.

Stuart MacBride is also good, the Logan McRae series. And another vote for Stephen Leather. Some James Patterson is good, also Jonathan Kellerman and his wife Faye both do good stuff, sometimes overlapping. Clive Cussler if you want a straightforward adventure-style book and aren't too worried about stretching realism a bit far (they discover Atlantis in one, for example). Mark Billingham is good, as is Peter James (the Roy Grace series). Graham Hurley as well. And Quintin Jardine for the Bob Skinner series (Edinburgh cop) and the Oz Blackstone series (movie star and private detective) but perhaps not the Primavera ones (so far, at least, not quite so good). I also enjoyed the Lawrence Block 'burglar' series, not gritty but an enjoyable read, have only read one of his Matt Scudder PI novels which wasn't terrible but a while ago.

Harlan Coben (and his Myron Bolitar books) are very good and along similar lines.

David Baldacci has created an identikit character to Jack Reacher in his John Puller novels.

Loves strong coffee, career as an MP, strong and silent, wakes up by internal clock, etc
