Observer's Book of Automobiles author L.A. Manwaring query

L.A. Manwaring is credited in early (1950s and 60s) editions of the Observer Book of Automobiles but I've drawn a blank in my search for information about him/her/them.

Was it a nom de plume, the name used by a team of people, an editor employed by Frederick Warne & Co; does anyone know?

I think ‘he’ worked for publisher F. Warne Co as an editor.

That's what I suspect though more recent names associated with the book have been known motoring writers, e.g.John Blunsden and Stuart Bladon.
