Strategic thinking books for beginners
Discussion
I've been advised that i need to start thinking strategically in my work. I'm pushing to climb the career ladder and so naturally i need to start thinking of the bigger picture, rather than just what's in front of me.
This is a new concept to me, so i'm looking for a book that can help me understand this better, but it needs to be explained as if i'm 5 years old until i grasp the concepts.
Amazon keeps pushing this one, but it has very few reviews.

Could anyone recommend a book for a beginner please?

Try reading ‘The Goal’, it’s not so much about ‘learning strategy’ as it is changing how you think, anyone can recite an academic textbook but you need to be able to ‘see’ from a strategic view, the goal focuses on taking a new approach / mindset to an existing situation (which you can extrapolate out to your own situation).
The Strategy Book by Max Mckeown too.
Equally, ‘thinking strategically’ is an underhand way of saying you’re not ready, ask them to give specific examples, walk through the situation and understand what you should do differently to support your learning.

Is The Goal more a fictional story about Alex Rogo? As this is the only one I can find. The Strategy Book by Max Mckeown too.

They have given specific examples, and I'm fine with the notion that I'm not ready, which is why I need to learn more about this subject. Hopefully I can get funded training too.

Yes that’s the one, it is ‘mandatory’ reading for all of our new Exec / President level hires. They have given specific examples, and I'm fine with the notion that I'm not ready, which is why I need to learn more about this subject. Hopefully I can get funded training too.
As I say it’s help with mindset / improvement and building trust in your team(s) so you can let go of the day to day.

I feel I ve benefited from:
- Jim Collins: Good to Great
- Simon Sinek: Start With Why
- Sun Tzu: The Art of War (yes, seriously)
There are more, but I ll need to go back through my library another time.
