Done a search, but can't find anything relevant and recent...

Who's currently flavour of the month for short-term breakdown cover on the continent? Must have English-speaking operators...

TIA

Don't bother with the AA, their short term 'European' breakdown cover doesn't include Italy, Spain, Portugal or Greece.

I went with Britannia in the end (Cheers Dusty_C). I'm paying £56 for eleven days. Not cheap but my car is 14 years old and I've called out the RAC twice in the last couple of months so I think I need it I would've gone with them as their service has been 1st rate but they wanted over £80 for the same cover.

I used the AA for cover a few years ago for a 3 day trip to the Nurburgring in Germany . Wise thing as it turns out . 3rd day and the gear linkage falls apart . Call the AA and they have the ADAC out pretty quickly . He can't fix it and says it needs to go to a BMW dealer . This all happend on a Sunday and my brother and I both have to be back in the UK for first thing Monday morning . So the AA pay for a cab to collect us from the hotel and take us to Bonn where we pick up a rental car to take to Calais . They asked me to pay for a ferry back as a foot passenger and then pick up another car at Dover to go home in and drop it off anytime Monday.

So my car is still at a BMW dealer in Germany while I've had to come home to work . They call me Wednesday as say the car is ready and can now be collected . They paid for a foot passenger ferry ticket and had another hire car for me to go from Calais to Bitburg in and drop that off at a Hertz place there . I then get a cab from Bitburg to Daun and collect my car . The AA pay some amount towards the cost of repair , in my case I only had to pay about £ 50 . So now I'm in Germany a few miles from the ' Ring ' so head on over for a few more laps .
The AA did not expect me to collect my car and get home all in one day , so they paid for one night in a hotel ,plus the ferry home too !

Everything I paid out for I claimed back, and was paid about 2 weeks after I seen off all the receipts . I don't think they could have done any more than they did to be helpful . I know i was well pleased with a free weekend at the Ring paid for by the AA

BTW 3:15 mins Bonn to Calais in that rental Skoda in the pissing down rain
