We had the Tree rat thread last week, I found it very helpful as they are playing havoc with the garden...useful tips...

BUT I have moles in the garden....

I have just had the lawn treated (Greenthumb)costing 70 quid... I get home today and theres more bly mounds than I could count.

I don't want to resort to the Jasper Carrot scenario...

Please help.. What is the best way to get rid, Humanely first....

About ten years ago, when I was working on a campsite in France, mole problem. One of the UK rent-a-tent companies had left at the end of the season, and stockpiled a large number of butane gas bottles, ready to be picked up by the supplier. we stuck a bottle and a hose at each hole and just let them empty what was left into the runs. dozens of bottles, a lot of gas. Then one of the French workers decided gassing wasnt enough, so he ignited it all.

Several pitches went up...WOOF!...grass and earth moved...pretty stupid...very effective.

I think you can buy poisoned earth worms for them in some of the DIY chains.

Humanely - have tried various wives tales about washing their own bodily wastes back down into their tunnels with water on the molehills, coffee grounds, broken glass, etc., etc. None of it has done sh*t frankly.

Am now (when they next come from the field into my garden) going to buy the contraption that neighbour's bought - did the trick for him immediately. 'Tis an electric gizmo with a trigger that you put in the vertical passage (having cleared away the molehill). Moley the poor devil, not liking the light, tries to push soil up there triggering the passage of electric current to the small explosive charge (I kid you not!) that is down in his tunnel with him. I imagine that the shock waves in the confined space puree his brains poor beast.

Would prefer not to kill 'em, but have had enough of a losing battle. Will find out more if you require details!

No idea how to get rid of them, but I did find a dead one once whilst out walking the dog. Was amazed at how tiny they are for the amount of lawn carnage they can cause

My Dad had loads of moles in his garden. Then the river at the bottom flooded and his back garden was under water for 2 days (thankfully it didn't reach the house). Two years later still no moles.

He did used to catch them with humane traps and then let them go on the local common.

Well on the basis of this thread, I wouldn't let PlanetDave near them

Pretty easy. Get a dowel, stick it in the ground. Get a 2 Liter plastic bottle and cut some holes in the sides, just so it can catch the wind. Put the bottle upside down over the dowel. Repeat this around your lawn.

When the wind blows it sends little annoying sound waves through the ground and really pisses the little brs off. They will leave and visit your neighbours instead.

Worked for me.

There was a fantastic thread about this on scoobynet ages ago, literally the best thread ever. Some guys repeated attempt to get rid of moles with repeated blowing up of the garden...

It feels like I am following in the JC sketch footsteps...

The shovel has come out already...

I've pumped 100 gallons of cold water down the holes..

I'm biding on a sonic mole repeller on Ebay..

Now where did I put that 12 bore and stool...

Has anybody used the electronic repellers...??

I thought the solution was molasses, but that's a very old joke...

the only way to rid yourself of lots of moles is strychnine and folks with a licence to do it charge lots of cash!
most people think they have a thousand moles when infact they may have one!

12 bore, half choke, number 7 shot. Wait for moley to begin pushing up a hill, aim at the hill, just as it moves .... unleash hell

Probably not the best idea if you've got neighbours close by but thats how we got rid of our Mole problem.
