It was a South African Airways Boeing 747-400 which did some nice slow flypasts and some dramatically steep climb outs. Pretty amazing for such a large aircraft but I presume it was empty of passengers and light on fuel. I've never seen a 747 displayed like this before although I have seen large Airbuses (A300/A330/A340) displayed in just as spirited a manner.

was a south african 747 and it was sooo close to the crowd and although not looping the loop was doing most other things very slowly was quite scary!

They'll be doing the same at Farnborough later in the year.

It was pretty amazing - so low! Quite awesome.

The Vampire was great too. The band stopped playing and everyone stopped talking when it was doing its show.

Yes the air displays were great - the 747 was certainly different and impressive! My Dad was very pleased to see the Hunter display just as we were leaving - he used to fly them when he was in the Navy in the mid 60's

It was the Sea Vixen out of Bournemouth - and it was good, one of the best displays I've seen him do. The P51 was excellent as well.

All the displays were cool, but the 747 was amazing....

But what a fabulous event ? The chance to get so close to such amazing cars is something else... I just loved the racing Alfa's and Masers, the Ferraris were breathtaking, two D types.... an XKSS.... I could go on and on......

The 747s and the 707s that they're based on are actually very good handling aircraft. There was a story about the press launch of one or the other where a whole bunch of hacks and industry reps were taken up from Boeings Seatlle facility, and the nutter of a test pilot had just been told to "show them what it can do"......

So he rolled it.......

Not something you want to happen when you've just been served your 1st class dinner!

I couldn't believe it when I read it was going to be there on their website on Saturday.

Sure enough, Mrs V12 and I had just finished our picnic on the lawn when there it came!!

Amazing. Couldn't believe this bloke who was stood behind us, when it finished he said, "Was that it? What was so good about that??"

Pck!

The Gold Cup Roll. I guess the some of the brass on the ground were not impressed, but the crowd loved it. It was at the Gold Cup unlimited hydroplane races in Seattle and has been immortalised in aviation lore. That pilot had "The right stuff"

Perhaps he lived near Heathrow!

As for the Lambo well they towed it back past the stands .. it did look a bit crumpled at the front.
