Will we get into trouble? -Update

Some of you will remember a topic I posted a while back about my secretary being involved in an accident (she was rear ended and her car written off) and the other lady driver driving off. My secretary suffered bad whiplash injuries and was off work for weeks.
Despite a full description/witnesses/registration details the police did bugger all beyond visitng the registered address for the vehicle, where they allowed themselves to be fobbed off with " sorry not known here!"
We even spotted the other car/driver one day and alerted the police but they said they were too busy to act on it, so she got away.
Well today we finally got our chance to follow the lady responsible all the way to her place of work.
We were able to confirm her identity with her employer and this was immediately passed to the police.
Their reaction? Too busy to do anything right now but "we might get someone round there this afternoon!"
I tell you what, I'm gonna raise such a stink if they don't get a result with this. Plod urges us not be vigilantes but even when we do find the crooks for them they can't be bothered to shift themselves with any sense of urgency.
I'll let you all know what happens. Anyone care to speculate on the outcome?

My guess will be that nothing will be done..... there isn't a speeding fine to be had out of it, just a shed load of trouble and paperwork.
My suggestion would be to issue a private prosecution against her if you want any justice done... and a strongly worded letter to her employer wouldn't go amiss....

Hmphh. I'd be extrememly tempted to wander into your local police station and say you want to make a formal complaint. Its against the law not to register a car in the owners name so even if the police don't want to get involved in the accident itself, they should be finding out why the address they visited had no knowledge of the driver in question.
This is all in stark contrast to my experience some years ago. Got hit by a Dutch lorry in N. Yorks and car was written off. Police at the time tried to find it and couldn't.
Two years later I passed the same lorry in Purley, South London. I gave chase and he wouldn't stop so I called the police from a motorway phone, They not only stopped him, they gave him such a hard time that his insurance company paid out in full three weeks later.

Just noticed this post. If you have legal cover on your insurance (its included in most policies nowadays) they will appoint you a solicitor, make your claim, then appoint a barrister to make your case in court if necessary.
I did exactly this when a white van tosser drove into the wifes Fiat, we won hands down and got all our money back plus compensation for inconvenience, time off work etc. It was SOOOO satisfying....

Doesn't this contradict an earlier thread where someone was being harrassed by Plod for a wingmirror incident and not stopping, yet here we have a total write-off and personal injury and they wont do anything??
Hmmmmm, perhaps a visit to them and demand to see the boss (**** it they are supposed to be our "servants" afterall) and report her for failing to stop/dangerous driving/un-registered vehicle - all sorts of things you could try down that vein... oooh and fax your MP too!! Letter to the local paper - police fail to act sort of thing... the list goes on.
And your insurance co shoud cover your legal costs and as an earlier post said you can claim LOADS in compensation that a straightforward insurance co claim wouldn't cover.. go on, give it a go!

I agree that you should perhaps promote the matter slightly higher up the ladder if you're having no joy at ground level but don't go OTT with the papers etc. yet or you may find yourself the recipient of some extra attention. Not saying Plod is vindictive but it is human nature to feel a little resentful to someone that has been publically slagging you off. If the bosses still won't sort it out though then fair enough!!

How about getting hold of the piece of legislation that says so, and take it to the local Inspector. Or as far up the chain as you can get.
Then again wait and see if someone does go round this afternoon.

Police came round, took some fingerprints, didn't seem very interested and no-one thought much was going to happen, and she didn't hear anything. Then a couple of weeks later they came round and arrested her flatmate! (who later confessed).

Formal complaints sound a good way to go. As has been pointed out that this woman has already broken several motoring laws and therefore the police MUST do something about it...

Maybe a little forceful on the words front might get some action. Hate to say this but apathy is not an excuse for lack of action.
Oh, and on the other side a friend of my wifes got a visit from the police for a "hit and run" incident. Turns out that the local busy-body old person was ever-so-slightly clipped by her mirror once. He reported her complete with number plate etc to the police. Police call round and issue a caution - well thats the official line. Turns out that the policeman they sent said that they had such a hard time from this busy-body old gentleman that they have to follow up everything he says. To the point that it is wasting police time - they would love to do him for this but currently havent had the opportunity. And in this instance nothing happened as there was no instance of an offence..... imagine what crap the police have to deal with though - shame they seem to have a problem identifying the real from the fictious...

From reading all these threads it never ceases to amaze me what is and what isn't persued by the police.
A few years ago, my then business partner clipped one of those little bins, come glove dispenser, etc in a Total Petrol Station with his wing mirror. He then drove home (3 mins), within 30 mins the Police turned up and threatened him with potential criminal damage offences etc, anyway nothing much came of it and it was mutually agreed to leave it in the hands of the Total Garage.
The next day the total garage was closed for redevelopment and the whole forecourt upgraded to a new style bin/glove dispenser.
A few weeks latter we (my company) received a letter from the company who owned to Total Forecourt with a bill for about £600 for the supply and installation of a new bin.
This we duly ignored, about 6 weeks later we got another letter threatening legal action if we did not pay up.
So I wrote a very stiffly worded letter to the Total Forecourt owners, asking them to provide evidence (ie the damaged bin), politely pointing out the forecourt had been redeveloped, etc...we heard nothing more.
In your case you have quite a lot of evidence which you can prove, damage to car, days off ill with whiplash etc, rather than expend your energy and stress on following this up I suggest that you either get your insurance company to do it or put it in the hands of a brief.

No news from Police as of last night so we called them.
"Oooops, silly us!" They said. "We forgot to pass on your message to the duty officer....We'll try to do it later today."
If the Police need any more explanation than why they are so roundly despised then then only have to reasd this thread. Jeeez! even when we catch the crims for them they can't be bothered!

The cops still haven't gotten round to acting on the information we gave them yet!
They did, however manage to visit my office - just to inform me that we have been taken off the burglar alrm response thingy cos we had two faulty call outs this month.
Why didn't someone just phone me to tell me that? Then they would have had enough time to go arrest the criminal driver!
Oh well, drinkies time!!!!!!
