sorry, but any anime with english audio or voice dubs is a bad anime. Captions for life.

For me, Fist of the North Star and Ninja Scroll are the best along with Akira. Haven't seen loads to comment but those really stood out. I have a few insane ones on VCD but I can't remember the titles. Winged demons ripping people apart was the general theme though.

I watched return of the Overfiend the other month, with Chan, she had never seen, or indeed knew that this kind of animation exsisted! She initially loved the excellent manga graphics, even said 'The kids would love this!', that is, until, a girl was raped by a tree thing, people cut in half in the utmost graphical detail, and the colourful expletives started!!! Her face was a picture, I haven't laughed so much in ages!! Manga,,, they're all great

Manga is so bad its untrue. Actually, apparently there is some specific subsection of it that is all the stuff which i would translate into english as 'cartoon porn'. The people who make that are just sick and wrong.

Used to be heavily into this a while back too. A couple of the good ones not mentioned so far are Rojin Z (a robot bed yet!!) and Metropolis (2001).

I have some good news from ghost in the shell fans, Two series of Ghost in the shell - Stand alone complex have finished and the sequal to GITS, Ghost in the shell: Innocence has been released. It's mind blowing. Let us just say that the ghosts of Batou's past come back to haunt him

I didnt realise how entertaining these Japanese filmakers could be, I always assumed it was crap Jacki Chan movies, but now, after watching the Manga animation, and films like Battle Royale and the original Ring films (on Sci-Fi last night), the slight inconvenience of having to read the subtitles are well worth it, and every bit as entertaining as the best Hollywood has to offer, but without the dumbing down to get the 12 rating!

Perfect Blue - superb, but messes with your head a bit.
Blood The Last Vampire - good too, but very short.
Castle In The Sky - good for all the family and a really sweet tale.
Ghost In The Shell - very good (as already mentioned) although the fact that she keeps getting her kit off to fight is a bit gratuitous to be honest.
Akira - seminal.
Gundam Wing - Great if you like mechs (which I do) but storyline and dialog a bit naff.
Patlabor - again, not bad if you like mechs.
Battle Angel Alita - not a patch on the manga* but not too bad.

(* anime = animated, manga = comic book / graphic novel. However, just to confuse matters most anime available in the UK is on the Manga label.)

Hmm we've covered a lot of the decent stuff - unfortunately in the "anime" categroy there is immense amounts of dross with some true gems shining through.

I quite liked some of the Macross series, the latest probably being the best (HMV have the film / series (film is edited together from the series but still rather good) for about £20 at the moment)

I dont suppose anyone has heard a release date for Ghost2 - Innocence?

cracking film! One of those ones that you watch and it ceases to be a point that it's animated.

I second 3x3 Eyes.

Not a film, but Initial D is ok for the cars DORIFTO!! But if you get Initial D it has to be the downloaded fan subs. The Tokyopop dvd releases were truly awful.
