As modern cars are too quiet and comfy etc etc im thinking of getting an old car somthing like an austin a40 (learnt how to go sideways in one ) or somthing similar, So apart from the A40 anyone else got any suggestions for a cheap RWD classic to run around in ??

Another capri is also springing to mind

Try a BMW 2002, either standard or tii. The tii can go as quick as most modern bm's and comes with discs, fully independat suspension and dual servo brakes- (they made them good in those days). The car, if you get a good example, handles well and slides forever. However, you could get the standard 2002 and put a few mods on (exhaust, head work, cams and twin carbs) and end with 155bhp in a light car- thats when the fun starts!!

RS2000 - Bit of an image problem but still a good motor
Dolly Sprint - Faster than a Porsche (ok a 924)
MkIII tina 2000E - absolutely classic shape (you can fit a cosworth engine)
MKI M5 - Needs a turbo like concorde needs a propeller, and now can be yours for less that 3 grand
MKI Granada 3000(Guv) - they seem to have fun handling on the telly.
924 porker - A Porker for peanuts.

I'm afraid I'm not old enough to remember many 60's cars that won't cost an arm and a leg. The above whilst never going to be included in the 'Best cars ever' list, and none are particularly quick by modern standards they should be pretty good fun.

Cheers Dan

Mk1 Escort,,good sideways.
Morris Minor, forget the image cheap and easy to modify.
105E Anglia.can be mofified to the hilt.
Standard 10, Spitfire engine makes a good racer.
Hilman Imp...great fun!

The A40 is basically an A35 so same mods apply, the MkII has a longer wheelbase and a better gearbox, use Sprite bits if you want Discs.

How about a Rover V* in a Marina Coupe, full for all but please sort out the front camber if you don't like hedge trimming!

They also came in turbo form, an aftermarket professional conversion, lots of fun!

I know the A40 its the Farina styled Austin, I used to have an A30 .

If you want cheap rear wheel classic just look at Fords, most had a sports or GT version and lots of the gear is interchangable. Have a look at Classic Ford mag they dont just retore them they actively modify cars and feature modified cars. This month Mk1 Cortina estate with a V6 under the hood

If you like the size of the A40 try a Ford Anglia

Don't laugh.
A Skoda Rapid circa 70's 80's. Rear engined rear wheel drive, handles like a 911 (yes it does) and revs like an Imp, Enormous fun, I'm not joking.
