Have just been reading through the "defending your home" thread, wherein some PHers type about keeping weapons of various types handy around the home. I also do this - half a snooker cue with a whipped handle on the end.

But it started me thinking about weapons of defence kept in the car - I have nothing, partly to avoid provoking 'BiK' (Boys in Kepis) reactions. Have a couple of friends who have their habits - one with a wheelbrace in the passenger footwell, the other a club hammer in the boot.

Where do you peeps stand on this and what handy tool do you pack if any? I think that whatever it is, it needs to be in the car rather than in the boot. I imagine the ubiquitous Maglite will get a few mentions and maybe this is what I should buy....

Oh no no no no no you can't carry weapons in the car.

That stout stick officer? Oh that's to hold the bonnet up when it's windy...

I would never carry a weapon in the car, its just asking for trouble with the BiB. I have a 4D cell maglight though. Purely for emergency illuminaion purposes of course

Quite right, would never condone that sort of behaviour!

My maglight's just kept in the door pocket in case I need to see in the dark.....which reminds me, must change the batteries so it actually works.

Ahhh the day I carried a semi auto blank firing gun in the boot of my car under the suspecious tarpalin and pair of boys boxers and a knighty (used as rags to protect interior when shifting garderning equipment). That would be fun to explain.

Hmm, I don't think I've got any weapons in the car, but then I'd like to think I wouldn't need them if it came to the crunch

Actually, I have got a couple of those multi purpose tools in the glovebox, but they're more tools than weapons.

Usually don't carry anything, but on long trips or if I have to make the bank run when my General Manager is on vacation:

To be fair, it's not actually in the car but strapped to my ankle...

Ahhh Mr Bond - we have been expecting you

the old maglite is not a weapon - but a darn sensible thing to be carrying in case of breakdown and a long walk in the dark without reflective clothing.

It just happens to be the size weight and heft of a decent club, thats all...

Unfortunately, as soon as you use it in a threatening manner, it is classed as an "offensive weapon".

My plan is to burst in to tears and ask for my Mom as soon as any one comes near....

Damit that was my plan as well. I'll scream like a girl and kick then in .... I might pinch them as well if they really get nasty.

Two arms / two legs all complete with the things on the end of these. Together with a goodly number of years at the local Japanese school of self defence is all you need

Must try it some day

Halfords have Maglites half price at the minute, how good are they really?

a) To twack someone with (the largest one)

b) As a torch

Can't you carry a samurai sword in the boot and say you were driving to class?

Would have to be a very small sword to fit in a VX...

I wouldn't risk any bladed objects after reading about that guy who was arrested for carrying a penknife in his briefcase, in the boot of his car.

Fortunately my car has locks on the door and an engine under the bonnet so i can escape most situations without recourse to the use of make shift clubs, bludgeons etc. If i need more time to deploy the door locks and engine i always carry a can of
i've even been told that it gets rid of frozen water too which is an added bonus

I have a 6 D cell maglight in the boot. It is very good for illuminating when I need to do something like put on snow chains. It could just conceivably also be used as a defensive weapon.

How would the law lie if you had a tyre iron under your seat or in the door compartment? Is there any law that says these have to be kept in the boot?
