Okay now is the time... Would someone here be kind enough to explain this 'anorak' thing to a devoted French (UK-based) PHer. It seems that the single mention of this word can trigger an awful lot of posts.
What does it mean? Where does it come from? Is there a difference betweeen getting one's coat and one's anorak? What about parkas?

Ta!

anorak (an-er-ak)

1. n warm, waterproof coat with a hood attached. (see pop group Oasis)

2. n obsessive, geeky character. Often displays an almost unhealthy interest in a specialist area or subject. See also, spanner, spoon, trainspotter, trunion-polisher, stamp collector....

... and with 5 ball-opints / pencils in his shirt's pocket! Now I see what you mean.
Oh and don't forget dandruff, bad breath, white socks, mobile phone (preferably Nokia Communiator) hanging from the belt, long hair ('cos can't be bothered) or shaved head for the same reason.

Thanks for this most informative session.

Saw an anorak in a Dwane Dibley T Shirt at my local ASDA this week. Surely DD is the God of anorak?

Manek - you said it, not me, but I'll own up to it too!
