But am I the only person who gets totally outraged when people smugly switch their high intensity fog lights on just cos its raining?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!
And then they look blank/angry/violent when you flash/gesticulate etc.
FFS its RAINING. Its NOT FOGGY!!!!!!!!!
rant off.
Any body got any other examples of blatant numptyitis?

I think the fog light issue is something our boys in blue may like to look at. Having them on unecessarily should be an offence (It probably is, but isn't enforced)
It indicates to me that the driver is driving without due care and attention in the same manor that MLOC members are

Actually, if you'd been on the M5 at around 5pm, you'd have been glad of rear fog lights being on. I was, and I had mine on too, particularly given the TVR's rather wimpy set of rear side lights.
We *were*, however, talking *seriously* reduced visibility, even at 30 or 40 mph. As soon as it cleared up, even a little, off it went.

i cant stand fog lights , F**kin grandads are doing it now as well as bolt on boys and reps and posing prciks , all the cars ive used that had them were f**kin useless in fog , Anyway if they come towards me in the van or on the bike and they have the f**kin things on they get a dose of main beam which on the bike is 2x130w
Also anyone else seen people driving and night with sidelights on and fog lights but no dipped beam ?

Yep, all the time... irritates the c**p out of me... what gets me is, you even see it in broad daylight too! If I see a car with them on, I usually flash repeatedly until I pass them...
If I see someone driving along with their rear fogs on I give them a couple of flashes with my fogs to let them know. If they dont get the message I flick the headlights, main beam and fogs, on an E30 thats a lot of light, they tend to get the message when the front of their car goes into eclips mode

Fog lights are designed to be used in thick fog AND heavy rain - though there needs to be a lot of rain before they are really required.

Sadly you're wrong.
The Highway Code states (and I quote);
'You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves'
(Rule 201)
Visibility can be reduced by heavy rain as much as it can by fog.
It may be that many drivers consider any rain at all to justify turning fog lights on, which is clearly wrong - visibility must be less than 100 metres as stated.
But its the distance you can see that determines whether fog lights are required - NOT the fact that its foggy. In light fog you shouldn't use them either - or traffic jams even in heavy fog when they are pointless.
I was waiting for my ride home after arriving at Heathrow Terminal 3 a few months ago, it was semi dark and cold/windy, but not raining/foggy. BUT I had an interesting wait as the Police had set up a trap, stopping everyone who came by (no escape due to the road system) with failed bulbs and with their fog lights turned on.
However, I didn't see anyone get a ticket!!!

Just in case anyone reads my previous post and thinks I drive round with my fog lights on all the time - I don't. I never used them in the Chimaera in 3 yrs. In 80K in the Mondeo I maybe had them on for 2-3 minutes in total. And I havn't switched them on in 2K in the Merc either.
I wear contact lenses and bright fog lights make my eyes 'starry'. And I just can't help staring at them either, its like a rabbit in headlights. Drives me absolutely nuts, I'll often stick behind the car in question with my full beam on until he gets the message. Or overtake at all costs to get ahead of him. At least with middle lane drivers you can just pass them on the inside - if you get stuck behind someone using fog lights in good visibility you can get a headache VERY quickly. Yuk.

I was thinking of a Subaru SVX once upon a time, and ended up looking at US SVX forum. Found a quote to the effect that "I always drive with my fog lights on becasue it's safer". No-one disagreed.
I know, I should have joined the forum, and laid into them for being thick. But instead I departed and never went back, and didn't buy an SVX.
