Insurance costs vs Postcode
Discussion
I rememeber that sometime, someone posted a long list of how each postcode related to a risk (a bit like a car's insurance group).
Each one had a number and if I can remember correctly the really bad areas has * or even ** by them???
I guess this isn't an offical thing, but probably just one Insurance company's way of working it out.
Does anyone have a link to this. Have searched PH and can't seem to find where it was posted before.

This is a CAR (not bike/van/house) chart.
Key to these codes is as shown below, and yes – it is a little weird but I assure you it’s accurate:-
7 IS THE LOWEST AREA, Q THE HIGHEST. TO GIVE YOU A BETTER IDEA OF HOW THIS AFFECTS PREMIUMS - A £500 PREMIUM IN AREA 7 WOULD BE £1100 IN Q.

Thanks for that.
I live in B29 (group 4b) at the mo. But spend equal ammounts of time in SO21 (1b). I have no idea where I stand when it comes to car insurance.
I mean, I knew that SO21 would be lower, (it's a shame that it isn't more specifice, because my village has roughly no crime, Ever!) but the quote doubles when I change the postcodes for exactly the same car!!

So basically: don't live in Belfast?
It has always made me wonder. I assume car insurance doesn't cover acts of terrorism, so why is Belfast much more expensive to insure a car than anywhere else?

AFAIK the BT postcode covers all of Northern Ireland... some parts of which are dodgier than others

PE3 = 1a = Sorted for me. "Er In Doors" who lives in SL1 = 3a.
Insurance in SL1 for her P reg Rover 420 Diesel is £379 TPFT, put in PE1 for it and it comes down to £189 with TSB. Bloody scandalous.
I just insured my 2000 reg 406 HDI for £210 with TSB fully comp protected

I live on the border of LS8 (4a) and LS17 (2b). I am actually on the LS17 side, just, according to the local maps but the post office in their wisdom assigned an LS8 postcode because it would be easier for the postman (that was the excuse we were given)
This makes my insurance about 25% more expensive. I wonder if I can claim the difference back

Because most of the trouble in NI is not 'terrorism' per se, it's sectarianism. Catholics burning/stoning/etc a car because the owner is Protestant (or vice versa) is not classed as terrorism and thus the damage is, most of the time, covered.

Nor did it cover you over here for damage caused by civil unrest, ie. car taken off you and used as a barracade...You used to have to claim of the N.I.Office for that !!! Took around 2 years to get the dosh if you were lucky

So basically, over here, you're screwed !!!

Looking at my area and I find that PR26 is higher than pr1 and pr2. These are city centre areas and surely must be much higher risk than a semi rural suburban area?
I thought that - Mrs Mcf lives in a PL2* village (group 7) yet her insurance is 60% cheaper than using a M*** postcode (Group 3a)...
