Hi everyone, i'm new to PH but I hear its the equivalent of the motoring oracle.

So here goes my first question:

I happily parked my Mazda on the road over New Year outside of my inlaws, in a respectable neighbourhood of Kent, and went skiing for a week. But like all great trips you have to come back to some kind of problem, and mine is a 2 foot key scratch down my drivers wing. The scratch is down to the metal and going to require a proffessional job.

Does anyone know who to approach in the Derbyshire area and how much it should cost?

Thanks again!

Hi Stacko!

Sorry to hear about this. Not what you needed after a lovely trip away.

I know a couple of people who have used an outfit based in the Cattle Market in Nottingham. They have always done a very good job on their cars and they are not very expensive either. If you are not happy with their work, they will put it right. They are called AF Motors, Tel. 0115 985 1219 and ask for Alan. If he asks who recommended them, say Adam and Matt of Liquid Image in Long Eaton.

If you are local to the area, would you like to join me and about 25 other PHers for a curry and beer night on 22nd January? It would be a good opportunity for you to meet some fellow petrolheads and get to know a few more peeps off here. This is the link to the thread:

Dont know if these guys operate in your area? www.chipsaway.co.uk. Some guys down here have used them and they are ideal for this kind of damage.

I would try chipsaway and colorworks and the like before approaching a proper bodyshop.

Honestly, as Vincent said in Pulp Fiction "Man, it would have been worth him doing it, just so I could catch him doing it"

Chips away are supposed to be pretty good.

Not sure how they would compare cost wise to the Mazda dealer but presumably they can match the colour accuratly? The Icon is a bit of an unusual one.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I shall look into those over the next day or so and let you know how I get on. I live in North Derbyshire but work in Derby so i'm all over the county regularly.

Thanks for the invite at the end of the month too, but i'm afraid i'm back to Kent that weekend.
