Heard on this mornings local news that Norwich Union are going to introduce a pay-as-you-drive insurance scheme using a 'black box' in your car to monitor when and where you drive. Numpty newsreader said it was 'good news for motorists'. Personally I think its the beginning of the end, whats the PH view?

You were over the limit during the journey and this is against the small print in your policy.... Sorry, no payout!

Indeed. That would almost certainly be on the cards.

Its dressed up in a friendly way but rest assured they WILL bend you over and ruthlessly take advantage.. After an accident Id imagine all the info on the box would be available to the authorities as well..

Can't imagine consumers being comfortable with everything about their driving habits being recorded and interpreted by an organisation.

Similar in flavour to being spied upon.

Unless the box was hidieously damaged in the accident, nothing else.....just the box.

It all comes down to one thing. Machines cannot understand mitigating circumstances. Eg. You live out in the country, your child is seriously ill you're rushing to get them help (Doctor/Hospital) you speed but you can't slow down and drive sensibly or the child could die. If the machine notes this - your screwed. It has no compassion. If you are stopped by a police car they will understand and give you an escort.

Resist, at all costs the influx of automated cheapness to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Scarey thing is if ALL the other insurance companies start doing it... then you get charged extra or even refused insurance if you refuse to have a big bro box... leading to more uninsured drivers???
Is it just this country that hates cars or is this being done elsewhere?

No I bloody well won't get used to it!! I will NEVER have something like this installed on any of my cars and as I'm already a criminal for owning a car, I won't feel any more guilty about breaking any future laws on the matter by not having one.

All I can say, is...don't fall for the supposed advantages which are really just to ensnare the naive.

It's a trojan horse and once accepted, the rest will follow as you can probably imagine.

My Volvo is just about to be fitted out with a Widget that does exactly the same thing, it might even be the same technolgy. www.trakm8.com are the people sponsoring us.

Hopefully there will be a website with my progress to West Africa James bond stylie flashing dots, only there might be a few days beforehand where we can all see where I've been

I wonder if roundabouts will confuse it

Miltone Keynes here we come

So your 17. You have a job working 06:00 - 18:00 in a factory 20 miles away. It'll cost you £20 to get to work everyday.... err hang on.
