Chaps, what you think of this?
Discussion
I'm waiting for the Phoenix to be completed, but I need a filler runabout, (was going for the zonda but many issues with the whole purchase in general especially when I was quoted prices for up-keep of the car etc., so let that one go, wise decision)...
I'm thinking of picking up a Dodge Viper twin-turbo with 1100bhp + every mod you can throw in the book, to use as a regular runabout...
Do you think this is a good choice?

Surely you are better off with a tamer beast than the cerb 1000 bhp?
Maybe a Ferrari 550? 575? 456?
Bentley Audi thing ?
996 TT turbo
Audi Lambo?
I thought about it, and I wont be pleased if its marginally slower than the phoenix after its completed...
So I reckon an 1100bhp viper will be great for the runabout and shopping car, plus the other half can drive it too...
If I spend anything up to 300k, I will be dissapointed if it doesnt perform close to my cerbera will after the project, and if the servicing is going to cost thousands and repair bills thousands, then the purchase is not worth it. Anyone can afford a big loan, but then imagine dishing out xxk odd a year in keeping the thing running...
I was just thinking a Cerbera 6.0 with 1000bhp and a Viper 1100bhp would complement each other... the other idea I had was to pick up a Jag XK8, and get it dropped off to my engineers to get it supercharged to 750bhp...
or I could just pick up the Bentley GT coupe... which is now back on the list...
spoilt for choices... hate this!

I'll be honest, the only thing putting me off a lambo or fezza is the sheer "rich bassid poser brat driving his dads car" etc etc... and the fact they're well know by every kid, which means putting up with scratches and nicked badges etc etc.... and due to their exotic well-known status, I could never use one to pop into tescos or something... come back and I got 10 trolleys shoved into the body! I mean people do it to bimmas, and ferrari is an even bigger target for jealous buggers...
Bentley GT is classy, Viper just looks crazy, cerbera just looks too nice... so these kinda cars are not at the front of the 'jealous buggers keying list'... thank god!

this cerb you're going to tune to 1000Bhp, how are you going to use this regularly ? i drove a 4.5 lighweight and it wasn't bloody hard getting the back end of that out !!
also, is that a reliable figure, or will it peak at 1000 in optimum conditions ?
i'm really interested to know what the cost of this conversion is going to cost ?!? (went to your site, but was met with a homepage that didn't go anywhere?)
Cheers, Raks

You might think I'm an idiot, but why not something like a 205 GTi or a Clio Williams?
It sounds like pocket change to you for something like that, it's what most people would term a "runabout", and it would probably be quicker down a fun back road than your bloody insane sounding (good work by the way
) TVR project. Upkeep would be peanuts aswell, and fuel cost! All you would need would be an alarm so no pikey twat nicked it, you would get admiring looks from similar enthusiasts and no looks from jealous losers....
Just an idea

Perhaps I'll throw a 7litre spanner in the works.

Was there... thought about it, but got put off by a few essential things... support was one of them, and then there is no Saleen community here in the UK... The Viper community is thriving and they look after each other, just like the TVR massive... thats the catch....
Are you insane SXS?? What do you mean by a 'run-about'?
I'd think of a Golf GTi or an old Mustang as a nice fast run-about, what your talking about is an insanly fast sports car not a run about.
You want something with class thats fast and going to give you adfmiring looks, well what about a Austin Martin DB9, its only 450bhp but runs on a 4.9litre V12 so sounds like a beast!!
not sure a viper with 1100bhp is an ideal runabout. to me an ideal runabout is something that can be fine in traffic... what's the clutch like? how does it feel crawling around at 1500rpm on something that has had the engine internals changes to handle 1100bhp (different compression so a lot less low end torque perhaps?)? what about when the boost comes in - it's a runabout so if it is a hairy drive in the wet that's not really what I would consider a good runabout. Also will you be forever finding a source of optimax? also a runabout should be more practical... i'd opt for a 4 seater GT cruiser with lots of power that can be parked anywhere... how about a Jag XJR-R with a new supercharger to give you 600bhp on an autobox with traction control?
Made a deal with my younger brother to not buy an Aston Martin, because he wants to own one in couple of years and doesnt want me to take the limelight away from him, hehe, bless him.... the missis would love it though... so if I do go down the luxury tourer route, we'll probably pick up the gt coupe...
