North Weald to become housing?!?!?
Discussion
Hi All,
I have found out that North Weald airfield in Essex is to be sacrificed for up to 6000 new homes.
This airfield, owned by Epping Forest District Council has been used for holding Motorsport and other car related events for many years and is the only airfield in Essex where car related events currently take place.
The RSS14 planning discussion document is open to comments until March 16th.
More information available at:

Let's not let Essex disappear under concrete!!

What a nightmare this country will be in, say, 20 years' time, we won't be able to move unless we are more strict on the country's entry requirements (as are many other countries already). It's overcrowded enough already.
It's worth bearing in mind that 6000 houses is only a fraction of what Labour (Prescott) want built.

To be fair I think the main problem is that we are living as singletons in greater numbers, the actual population number hasn't changed much but the divorce rate and marriage rate has, meaning more houses required for these people. Anyway back to thread.....

Well that, and the fact that every bastard seems to want to move into the South East.

Exactly. If you live down there, it must seem like hell. Move up north, plenty of room. In fact, once you get past Carlisle, its pretty much just sheep and fields.

Some folks have no choice in the matter - that's where the jobs & money tend to be.
As for the airfield, up to 6000 homes is quite a few. Hundreds, if not thousands, of car fans are going to have to come out of the woodwork to make an impression.
For any politician, 6000 homes versus maybe 100-200 car fans is a no brainer, surely ?
Sad, but true.

That's without mentioning that it has a very large regular sunday market, and is a working airfield with flying and gliding clubs as well as having an extra long runway for larger planes. it's not the number of homes, it's the benefit to the people who already live in the area that matters.
