Car tax gone up!

I see it's going to cost me an extra fiver to re-tax the Tiger. Now comes in at £170 So when did that tr Brown sneak that one through?

Any idea on the engine size classing for small/medium. Let me guess anything >2.0 is large? Or was that optimistic and it's more like anything >1.5!

I seem to recall <1lt = small, >1.5lt is large. How a 7.2lt V8 can be compared to a 1.8/2.0lt 4 pot beggars belief!

My Corvette has a 5.7 litre high compression, holley carb fed (i.e. dirty emissions) engine.....

.....and I pay....NIL car tax

because mine was manufactured before I was. In 1969.

I have saved about £800 these last five years of ownership and I thank the conservative government for that.

As for putting up tax, what do you expect from Labour ?

Don't vote for them again anyone, if you did before that is.

Don't shout too loud,else they might close this loop hole too.It makes more sense to run a classic,than it does to run a modern,IMO.

Expensive that extra 39cc over 1549cc! they cost £1.41 each pa!

A haulage company near me has a fleet of old lorries on which he does not have to pay tax, makes perfect sense to me.

That site confuses me while thats not normally a difficult task i'm surprised as it's govt data.

My honda shopping trolly is post 3/2001 and has an output of 212kg of CO2
with that in mind it should fall in to band F @ 165 quid a year.

If i follow the link to the emissions database supplied by the vehicle certifaction agency and carfueldata.org, i type in my cars details and i get told i'm in band D @ 160


still, it's still not 170

Yeah, I went along and got half deafened by the mass engine start! It was a good laugh. Good to see (and hear) lots of very nice Tivs. Shame you couldn't make it, next time maybe?

How old does a car have to be to avoid the tax? Around mid 70's I think.....

it has to be built (i.e. leave the factory) before Jan 1973. It could be registered now, in 2005, but it must have been originally built pre 73.

I believe that's another way of eeking more cash out of us. From memory, it used to be any vehicle over 25 years old was tax exempt. It's now fixed at 1973 so there are no new(er) cars becoming tax exempt.
