A family friend had a narrow escape yesterday when her cobra literally burst into flames.
No warning,no smoke, fuel line must probably have ruptured.Great shame.
No injuries.

The black 300zx(background) is also hers.

Nasty - glad no-one was hurt. Was it real or a replica?

Nasty, and unlucky too!

I blame that speed camera in the background. Always blame the speed camera!

That's terrible It's more likely to have been electrical or a brake line squirting onto the exhaust though.

Having seen a Tiger nearly go up at a trackday because his alternator plug came off and shorted itself to the exhaust I fitted a battery cut-off switch so I can at least prevent that cause of a fire.

at least she got out ok but i doubt she'll be buying the car back from the insurers.

i've seen a scimitar go up like this but the carb was to blame in that instance.

Good grief - that's awful

Of course the most important thing is that your mate got out okay and no one was hurt.

I hope the insurance claim etc goes through quickly and smoothly.

Looks nasty, gutted, always loved cobras, nearly cried when my old man sold his one.

It is (was) a replica. Doorhandles a giveaway, looks like a Sumo.

Glad no-one was hurt, not the first one I've seen catch fire....

Thought so, as a metal body wouldn't have melted away.

(However the newer official carbon bodies may also melt like GRP too).

Get Aluminium hot enough and it'll burn nevermind melt......

Shame about the car it must have been lovely. Still hopefully the insurance will pay out enough to buy another shiney toy!

Any metal CAN melt, obviously, but a car fire isn't that hot though is it.

Has there ever been a case of a metal bodied car melting?

Dunno about the bodywork melting.

But a mate of mine had his calibra nicked and burned out. I saw it afterwards and the alloy camcover had sagged down onto the cams. So it'd nearly melted.

The early exige fires and 340r fires caused the ali chassis's to burn so yes they can get hot enough
